Shalom in the name of Yeshua! That's the Hebrew way to say Jesus.
My name is Ethel Chadwick. I'm a nice Jewish girl, and fourteen years ago, the Lord opened the door to a radio ministry for me. It's called "Bagels & Blessings" and it's now on Saturdays at 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. EST on 990 AM WDCX. I am on the air playing Messianic music, interviewing people about their faith, and giving away bagels and lots of prizes.
A little bit about me: I grew up in a Jewish family in Richmond, Virginia. I went to Hebrew school for 5 years and occasionally to synagogue with my family. I was always attracted to the occult and astrology, as I was always searching for the meaning of life. (Later read I read Deuteronomy chapter 18 I realized that this was against God's law, so I repented and never went back to it...) In college some friends gave me a tract about Jesus but I was offended and confused. I even sang "Handel's Messiah" without knowing what it was about. Later when I was married and living in Rochester, NY I met a lady who shared the scriptures with me and I got up the nerve to read the New Testament for the first time. I saw that it wasn't offensive to Judaism and I learned that the disciples were Jewish, that the last supper was a Passover Seder. When I read Isaiah 53 and Jeremiah 31:31 from the Jewish Bible I realized that Yeshua (Jesus) was the Messiah! So in July of 1976 I invited Him into my heart and it's been a glorious and wonderful journey ever since!!!
You might ask at this point – do I call myself a Christian or a Jew? It’s really not as separate as some might think. First of all, the word “Christian” means follower of the “Christ” or of the “Messiah.” Jesus was not the son of Mr. and Mrs. Christ. His Hebrew name was Yeshua, which also means “salvation.” Yeshua said in Matthew 5:17 – “I came to fulfill the law and the prophets – not to change them.” He never intended to change religions. So I call myself a Messianic Jew, but I could also say I’m a Jewish Christian or a Christian Jew. The problem that many Jews have in reconciling these two faiths is thinking that the word “Christian” means the same as “gentile.” A gentile is a non-Jew. I hope this clears it all up. I haven’t converted to another religion. My heart is converted, definitely converted. I have circumcised the foreskin of my heart. (Deuteronomy 10:16
There's lots more to tell, and I have CDs with the "rest of the story" if you're interested! Just send me an email (you can click below).
